5ply Naturally Coloured Polwarth Yarn (Sports)
This 100% Polwarth wool of 21-23 micron over a 100 - 110mm staple is not superwash treated so it retains the natural characteristics of wool for warmth.
It is a three-strand fully worsted yarn. Great for high definition stitches such as ganseys and cable work.
Entirely grown and manufactured in Victoria. After shearing, it travels on a 303km roadtrip to the scourer (Geelong) to the top-maker (Bacchus Marsh) and finally to the spinner (Ballarat) before returning to the farm where some is dyed by hand.
This yarn is grown by naturally coloured Polwarth sheep who are direct descendants of the original flock established on our farm in the mid-1800s.
The white fibre yarn was grown by Fairview Polwarths 15kms from Tarndie on the fringe of the Otway Rainforests.
Australian Fibre Collective licensed product #00091.
100gm skein - 287 metres (314 yards)
26 stitches over 10cm on 3.5mm needles
The 100gm skeins may come direct from the spinning mill without steaming - a process which blooms the yarn. The full thickness of the yarn is achieved by soaking the yarn in warm water either before using it or in the blocking process.
