Homestead Garden Range

Colour is all around us – up in the air, laying on the ground, growing with the seasons. The gardens around Tarndwarncoort Homestead have offered a rich pallet as a home to plants, trees and wildlife.

This selection of jewel tone colours draws on the richness of the gardens, inscribing them on 100% Polwarth yarn grown at Tarndwarncoort.

This 4 strand 8ply (DK), the yarn is the product of Australian and New Zealand processing. After shearing at Tarndwarncoort, the wool was scoured in Geelong (Aus) then spun in Napier (NZ). Batch 2 and 3 were dyed in Napier, while Batch 1 then returned to Geelong for dyeing. It’s finished at Tarndwarncoort ready for woolcrafters to begin the next chapter in the sustainable lifecycle of hand-made woollen garments.

Available in 100gm balls and 20gm hand wound cakes

  • 20gm - 37 metres (40 yards)

  • 100gm - 192 metres (209 yards)

Gauge: suggest 22 stitches over 30 rows to create a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) swatch using 4mm needles.

Colours:

  1. Hedgeberry Red – remnant hawthorns from the orchard hedge - note, Batch 3 is dyed on white wool base.

  2. Grassy Green – late spring lawns as the stems start to harden and yellow

  3. Mallard – greeny teal feathery drake heads eating garden snails - note, Batch 2 is dyed on white wool base.

  4. Calendula - mustardy golden pop of colour in the garden

  5. Blossom - soft dusky pink signalling warmer days ahead

  6. Blackened - the soot beetles cast their trail on fencing wire and gummy trees

  7. Lilac - timeless mauvey purple brushes past on a fleeting November walk

  8. Night Garden - owl eyes and possum fights colour the air after dark

Matched with the Natural Polwarth range for beautiful garments oozing a sense of place and heritage.
