Crafty Sundays report - 11 October 2026

Rolling up for Crafty Sundays!

It was picture perfect conditions for outdoor knitting last weekend for Craft Sundays. Shade umbrellas up and knitting needles ablur. It’s such a delight to see so many people step out for an afternoon of communal woolcraft.

Here’s a little wrap up of what we discussed -

Dahlias anyone?

This is our first year of need to divide the beautiful bloomers Jem gifted us from Moorpark Farm next door. There are waaay more than we need to replant around Melbourne Cup, and there’s a tonne of work in dividing them up.

So we though why not see if anyone would like to help divide them and in exchange for the efforts, take some home for your garden! If you’re not sure on how to divide them, we’ll have some guidance on the day. It will be from 12pm on Saturday 24 October.

 Show Time!

Colac Show

Geelong and Colac districts put their best efforts forward this time of the year in sheep, fleece, craft and shearing. We’re excited to be see what everyone exhibits!

This will be our second year building up a Wool Spinning section at the Colac Show. We’ve added a class for β€œArticle made from hand-spun wool” so we can see your yarn in knitting/weaving/crochet too. We would really love your support as we grow grassroots awareness of woolcraft – here’s the competition details. https://www.colacshow.com.au/wp-content/uploads/files/2026-Colac-Show-Wool-Spinning-1.pdf

To enter, use the online forms here https://showday.online/show/colac or head into the Colac Show office during opening hours. Entries close 30 October.

Geelong Show

The Geelong Show has a wonderful exhibition of woolcraft. Not only that but the Geelong Handspinners & Weavers Guild host hands on crafting activities with passionate guild members encouraging patrons to step into the world of woolcraft.

We’ll also be working with the Shearing Show in the same pavilion over the weekend as we help showgoers learn about the intricacies of shearing as well as the broader sheep industry and culture we’re in. Livestreaming via facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/p/Royal-Geelong-Shearing-and-Wool-Handling-Show-61582621736161/

And we didn’t mention it on the day, but we’re delighted that one of the flock grew a fleece we exhibited in the Melbourne Show and received the prize Fleece Most Suitable for Craft.

Show and Tell

We were too busy admiring the works to take photos, but the crowd went wild when Tammy held up her mosaic crochet blanket of Bambi in contrasting browns.
