Stables history.

The 10,000 acre property that was Tarndwarncoort from 1840 onwards required lots of labour and horsepower. An original building to house horses was replaced by this one around 1900 - at a time when it would have seemed the need for horses to provide the power was never in question!

By the time the 5th generation of Dennis family took up the farm in the 1970s, horses were just for pleasure and the stables became the place to milk a house cow, keep orphaned lambs and store hay in the loft.

By the 2010s the Stables was slowing falling down without a purpose other than to store β€œstuff” - including a much loved 1981 Toyota Corolla Station wagon, a red horse drawn buggy and a swelling amount of β€œmight-be-useful-one-day” items.

Our approach to conserving our built heritage at Tarndwarncoort is that places need to be used and purposeful to ensure they recieve the resources needed to keep them up - so the Stables was fixed up for guests to stay.
